Designing for a client

The most important part of the design process is communicating with your client. You need to be a great listener and then be a very clear communicator. If the client isn't happy, you don't get the job.

  • Design has a purpose. It explains how to serve a client's interests, how to communicate to an audience, and how to convey information.
  • Design is a process. It starts from general information gathering to planning to creation. At all times there is constant evaluation.
  • Design is also informational. It visually defines specific examples such as charts, etc. Design is a visual language that uses pictures to give meaning to content.
  • Design communicates ideas. It defines functions, and concepts to specific audiences such as age groups, geographic locations, income levels, gender, age groups, etc.
  • Design introduces qualities of colour.
  • Design leads the viewer's eye. Generally, a designer divides a composition by reads. What do they read first, second, third, and so on?
  • Design also follows principles such as alignment, balance, contrast, proximity, repetition and space
  • Design includes elements : the use of type, images and colour.
