Brainstorming
Brainstorming is a good way for a group of people to generate (create) lots of ideas quickly
This is how to do it.
1 State the problem or need. Write down the problem on a large sheet of paper or a
chalkboard. Be sure to record the problem and not what you think the solution might be.
2 Write down every idea suggested. One member of the group can write down everything,
even if the ideas or words seem silly at first. Use words, phrases or pictures to capture the
ideas. As suggestions are recorded, they will spark off more ideas.
3 Concentrate on quantity.
Produce as many ideas as possible. This gives you lots to choose from when it comes to
picking the best.
4 Don’t make judgments. If you say someone's idea is stupid, it may stop them producing more.
5 Allow a set time for the session. The first part of a brainstorming session usually produces the more obvious ideas and
thoughts, so allow enough time for some unusual ideas to emerge.
6 Sorting out the ideas. The ideas collected now have to be sorted Out. Repeated ideas should be removed. Some will be
impossible to use: they might be too difficult, cost too much or take too much time. This will leave a set of new ideas that can be
used as starting points for design and technology
