Objectives: During your Design you should…..
- MYP Interim Objectives for Grade 8 (MYP3)

- generate a range of designs that attempt to meet the design specifications

- generate atleast one sheet (12) annotated thumbnail sketches and 3 detailed annotated drawings. See Task 1below for a possible way of meeting these objectives

- design tests to evaluate your 3 detailed t-shirt designs against your design specification. See Task 2 below for a possible way of meeting these objectives
- NOTE the rubric requires "a range of designs, each compared against the design specification" In this unit it is ok to choose your best 3 designs and fully evaluate them and just annotate your other 12+ designs, refering to the design specification

Some points to consider:
- Having good ideas is a very important part of Technology.
- During the design stage you must experiment with lots of ideas. Think about colours, shapes and the latest fashion trends.
- Don't just draw the first thing that you think about and sit back and say I've finished. Look at the rubric here. You need to do a lot more than that for your 6!
- As you design, your ideas may change. Make sure you explain why you decided to change them. Remember it is very important to record all your ideas in your portfolio. Use words and clear sketches to help explain your ideas.
- You should develop two or three of your designs. These design ideas must be clearly presented. Other people need to understand exactly what you intend to produce.
- As you start to finalize your design ideas you need to test them out. You don't want a factory to make 2,000 copies of your new design if only you think its any good! You should use your design specification to test your designs. You should also ask the opinions of others.
- If possible you should ask people from your target group for their opinions. What do they think of your new designs? Which one do they like the best? Your chosen designs need to be evaluated and tested against your design specification.
- Select the best design. Justify your choice and develop the design further.
- You should write a list of relevant questions to guide yourself through the different stages of the investigation
- There are some guidlines below to help you with this investigation (highlighted in blue). You do not have to follow them - You MUST follow the objectives for the investigation though!

Colour Matters for What You Wear
Clothes are like a second skin. Most likely you feel good when you wear your favourite colour What happens when someone sees you wearing this colour? Does the colour send a message?
What do you think about pink and blue in the pictures below?

One example of colour and clothing is the custom of using pink for girls and blue for boys, but it wasn't’t always this way. This tradition began at the beginning of the 20th century. Pink was thought to be a strong colour and so it was best suited for boys. Blue was more delicate and best for girls. In 1921, the Women's Institute Pennsylvania endorsed pink for boys, blue for girls. Even more interesting is the fact that pink is the colour for baby boys and blue is the colour for baby girls in Belgium today.
Look at these notes on choosing colours in your designs.
Design Tasks:
Task 1: Design Ideas part 1.
- Draw thumbnail sketches of all the design ideas you can
think of. Do not spend more than a minute on any single idea. Do not rub out whole ideas, just add more.

- Draw at least 3 more detailed sketches. DRAW THEM WITH PENCIL. DO NOT USE THE COMPUTER

Task 3: Evaluate your designs
- Test / Evaluate your final 3 designs against the Design Specification. You need to show the positive and negative aspects of your designs. Use the Test(S) described during the Investigaton stage. If you don't have one then create a test!
Task 4: Final Design
- Come up with a final draft
- Why will this design best serve the Middle School Community? Evaluate it and evaluate your choice. . - Use the Test(S) described earlier. If you don't have one then create a test!

- Evaluation of the Design Stage. This is one of the final objectives for evaluation include:
- The Process - (Approaches to learning)
- research skills (information literacy)
- organization skills.
- Attitude to work (this unit)
- suggest improvements.
- The content of your work -
- what level do you think you have achieved in this section? Explain your answer.
- suggest ways to improve in the future.
